Army Emergency Relief (AER). A private nonprofit incorporated in 1942, with the sole mission to help soldiers and their dependents with emergency financial assistance. Over the years it has expanded to retired service members, spouses, widows, dependents and orphans. Funds can be used for food, rent, utilities, medical/dental expenses, etc; also undergraduate-level education scholarships.
